The Radiotelephony Course has been specifically developed for Radio Operators working at both offshore and onshore heliports, including helipads and helidecks. The course provides participants with the essential theoretical knowledge and practical communication skills required to effectively manage aeronautical radio communications in support of safe helicopter operations.
Upon successful completion of the course and passing the required examinations, students will become eligible to obtain a Flight Radiotelephony Operator’s License. This qualification authorizes the holder to operate radiotelephony equipment and communicate with aircraft, air traffic services, and other relevant stations in accordance with international aviation communication standards.
Individuals who provide an Air-Ground Communication Service (AGCS)—including those delivering aeronautical communication services from vessels or offshore installations—are required to hold an appropriate Radio Operator’s Certificate of Competence. This certification ensures that operators are capable of maintaining clear, concise, and standardized radio communications critical to aviation safety.
In certain cases, the Aerodrome Air/Ground Communication Service may also be provided by radio operators who are not licensed but have successfully obtained a Certificate of Competency from the State Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA). Examples include holders of the Offshore Operator’s Certificate of Competence (Restricted), which authorizes them to operate radio equipment on aviation frequencies within defined operational parameters.
The course is designed to align with current international aviation communication procedures, emphasizing phraseology, transmission discipline, and emergency communication protocols. By the end of the training, participants will have developed the confidence and competence to perform radiotelephony duties effectively in both routine and non-routine situations, contributing to the overall safety and efficiency of offshore aviation operations.
